Durham
Being to the east of Durham Cathedral and from a depiction of the city's founding etched on the cathedral's south side in masonry, taking its name, Dun Cow Lane is said to be one of the first streets in Durham. The first college (University College, Durham) became Durham Castle and the bishop moved to Auckland Castle as his residence in the county. In 1871, Durham Miners' Gala in Wharton Park by 5,000 miners was attended and remains in the world the socialist trade union event that is the largest.
